"A child with disability has a right ...to sports and recreation, education and training to help him live a full and decent life" (Lesotho Children's Protection and Welfare Act of 2011)
POP works with two mainstream schools, Ha Seleso Primary and Abia High School, both these schools contain a high proportion of children with disabilities. In 2023 POP undertook work at both schools building paths and ramps to enable the environment for students using a wheelchair.
Disability toilets had been built at the primary school but unfortunately without pathways so that children using wheelchairs were unable to access them. In January 2023 POP built a pathway at the primary school for girls to access the disability toilets. Now girls who are wheelchair users, and can self-propel, can access the toilets independently and no longer need to be pushed back to their residential home. POP also built a ramp for wheelchair users to access the school hall.
In July 2023 POP repaired ramps at Abia High School and built the first pathway at the school from the back gate to the staff room, linking in two of the classroom blocks. This means that students who can self-propel their wheelchairs can now access the middle of the school and staff room independently.

For students that need to be pushed a smooth pathway provides ease of use for the pusher and a comfortable ride for the wheelchair user.

Female students using wheelchairs can now access the disability toilets at Ha Seleso thanks to the pathway put in by POP.
Three times a week the physiotherapy assistant runs exercise classes for children to improve their fitness and encourage an ethos of sport for all. After exercise classes POP staff run floor handball games, which is the only competitive sport for children with disabilities at the schools, and is open to all children to take part in.
Goal nets, team strips and a winner’s cup have been provided through donations and the sport is very popular with both players and spectators.
Floor handball games are open for all students to participate in.
Games are very competitive between the Red Stars and Black United.
Teams compete for a league cup.
Class desks are standard ones which can be difficult for students in wheelchairs to use as the wheelchairs don’t go underneath them. The POP desk just slides onto the wheelchair so that students can have a desk close to them and they don’t have to reach across to try and use a class desk. APT chairs have been used at pre school and primary school for children who benefit from supportive seating and tables helping them to access education
Throughout the year POP has continued to promote other inclusive activities at the schools. The workshop has run several APT training events which have included children of all abilities and the workshop has been designed to ensure its facilities are accessible to all students
